Best Ball (Fourball)

2-Person Best Ball is a golf format for teams comprised of two golfers. Those two golfers play their own golf balls throughout and the lower score between them on each hole counts as the team score.

Horse Race

Horse Race – Often called a Derby, the Horserace format is played as two person teams alternating shots, all players/teams tee-off in a pre-determined order on the 1st tee. After the 3rd hole, teams with the highest combined score over the first three holes are eliminated (to leave 6 teams).  The remaining teams play hole 7 and the team with the highest score is eliminated. This continues until hole 9 (where 4 teams remain). The final four teams play the final hole and the low score on that hole is the "win", the second place team is the "place" and the third place team is the "show".

At all points where a cut is made, a chip-off is used to break ties.

Scramble

A team consists of two, three or four players. Each player hits from the teeing ground, then the best of the players is chosen for the next shot. Team members then play the second shot from that location, and again choose the best shot. Play continues in this manner until the hole is completed. The team handicap is deducted from the total gross score.

Shamble

In a "Shamble," each golfer tees off and the best shot is selected, but from that point, each golfer plays his or her own ball until it is holed out. What's fun about a Shamble format is that each person gets the benefit of the best drive, so they typically start out with a nice advantage (assuming there's a big hitter in the group)! In either case, the format is intended to be fun and relaxing for all golfers, whether high or low handicappers.
